But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
— Romans 5:8, ESV

It is not easy to make a sacrifice. The hardest thing about sacrifice is that we often make one with ourselves at the core of the action. Sacrifice isn’t about the one who gave, but the one who is to receive. Because of this, it is so easy to look at a situation not involving yourself and quickly determine what the correct course of action should be. When we remove our aspirations from a given situation, it becomes more natural to help others.

I suspect that Jesus did not want to die a painful death. Our Lord became our savior when he placed his aspirations to the side and did what was needed. We didn’t deserve his help, and Jesus knew that. Ultimately, Jesus did what needed because God was at the core of his decision making, not himself.

If we could be like Jesus in that fundamental way, not only would this world be made better through our actions, but souls would fill those Mansions over the Hilltop.
