And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
— Luke 3:23

While Jesus was hanging on the cross, having to decide whether he’d rather suffocate or push down on the nails driven through the nerves inhis feet, a criminal had the gual to ask Jesus for his undivided attention. If ever there was a time for someone to say, “Can’t you see I’m a little busy?” it would have been in that moment.

Consider also that this man at another time mocked him alongside the other prisoner and Roman soldiers. (Mt 27:44) If ever there was a time for someone to say, “Can’t you see I’m a little busy?” it would have been in that moment.

Don’t forget that Jesus was also in the middle of trying to save the world from their sin and shame and that criminal was case and point of the depravity of human morality. If ever there was a time for someone to say, “Can’t you see I’m a little busy?” it would have been in that moment.

And how dare we forget that Jesus was also looking to His own Father asking, “why have you forsaken me?” If ever there was a time for someone to say, “Can’t you see I’m a little busy?” it would have been in that moment.

Imagine how differently we would consider Jesus if he had responded the same way so many of us do today, “Can’t you see I’m a little busy?”

Let your light shine!
