In any case where a man’s life hangs in the balance of being guilty or innocent the character of the judge plays a vital role. In the case of the eternal Judge there is no question as to His make-up and mind-set. This Judge is like no other. He will not rule based upon the reasoning of man, but rather, that of His own knowledge, power, and presence. What makes this Judge different from those of this world is the fact that He cannot lie! Notice the following characteristics.

First, God is all knowing. When God gave Hannah a son named Samuel she gave him back to God and said,

Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed
— 1 Samuel 2:3

God’s knowledge and understanding are limitless and without boundaries and allows Him to judge the matters at hand. The psalmist wrote,

He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite [emphasis mine TB]
— Psalms 147:4-5

Second, God is all powerful. This simply means God has unlimited power and authority. It was the Christ that said, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” (Matthew 28:18). It is God that is the authority and it is man that will be brought to justice based on that authority.  Man will be without excuse when he stands before God in the judgment. Paul wrote:

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.
— Romans 1:18-20

The power of God is seen in His creation. It is seen in His inspired Word, it is seen in His judgment of past nations, and it will be seen in the judgment of the world.
